Course Description

This course will introduce delegates with limited prior knowledge of damage assessment to the Flood Hazard Research Centre (FHRC) 2025 Multi Coloured Handbook for Economic Appraisal and MCM-Online.  

The course will:

•    Explain the basic principles applicable to economic flood damage assessment.
•    Give you an understanding of the different damage types, available data for each and assessment techniques. Additionally giving a heads up to forthcoming annual revisions.
•    Use a number of simple but illustrative case studies with hands on breakout sessions to take you through the steps of an economic flood benefit appraisal.
•    Explain the role of the National Receptor Dataset and understand data deficiencies and the role of data quality
•    Encourage discussion to clarify questions and explore strengths and weaknesses, what’s important and what lessons can be learned to improve damage assessment.
•    The course will provide a line of sight between the appraisal, options development to Partnership Funding.
