Legal Translation (Level 7)

Focusing on providing essential real world experience and delivered in collaboration with the Association of Translation Companies, this course targets developing professional competence in legal translation, with valuable insights from professionals and academics.

Course Description

The course focuses on translating legal texts with both lectures and seminars on the nature of these specialised fields and characteristic features of texts produced within them. It includes language specific tutorials aimed at helping students to develop practical skills through advice and guidance from language specialists.

The areas covered include, but are not limited to:

• Features of specialised texts and their translation
• Aspects of text analysis in specialised translation
• Translation problems and procedures for specialised texts
• Aspects of equivalence in translating specialised texts
• Features of business and marketing texts: genres, text-types, terminology

Target applicants:

• Graduates and postgraduates with relevant or related degrees from the UK and overseas interested in a career in Interpreting and Translation
• Bi-lingual individuals wishing to study and obtain a UK qualification while remaining based in their home countries
• Interpreting and Translation practitioners who wish to pursue postgraduate studies, combining study with continuing their work,
• BA and MA Interpreting and Translation graduates opting to continue their studies rather than face an uncertain jobs market in the current climate
